Physical Considerations
- Switches or software?
Devices can be configured with switches and other physical devices or with software, depending on the needs of your company. - Termination
Both ends of a DeviceNet trunkline must be terminated with resistors. - Isolation
Any connection with an external power supply must be isolated.
These considerations are important, but not as applicable as the higher-level network considerations.

CIP is an object-based protocol. Because all CIP networks use the same library of predefined objects, solutions from different vendors are compatible. - Layers 1-2: CAN
